Graphic Design Terms
JPEG: JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group which is the board who created this file type.  The file extension for JPEG is simply .jpg.  This file type is best suited for photographs or images that contain a gradient, they cannot support transparency and also cannot be animated.

PNG: PNG is a file type which stands for Portable Network Graphics, and are the best file types to use on the web.  PNG files also do not lose any data or quality so are totally lossless. They also support transparency unlike a JPEG. A PNG-8 is basically the same as a GIF file. 

Pixel: Pixel means picture element. It is basically a digital element that makes up rasterised images.
